A LIFE DEDICATED TO TURKOLOGY: PROF. EKREM ČAUSEVIĆ, PH.D., pp. 1-5

Ekrem Čausević, full professor at the Department of Turkology, Hungarology and Judaic Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, is one of the most prominent turkologists in the world and a scientist who has greatly contributed to the academic community with valuable insights into the Turkish language and culture. He was born in Brekovica near Bihać in 1952 in Bosnia and Herzegovina. After finishing Bihać High School, he started his studies in Oriental Philology (Turkish, Arabic and Persian Language and Literature) at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sarajevo, graduating in 1974. He obtained his Masters degree at the same faculty in 1982 and his Ph.D in 1986 with a thesis on the evolution of forms of future tenses in Turkic languages. He has done postdoctoral studies at the universities in Istanbul (1978-1979), Ankara (1986), Vienna, Budapest and Sofia. In the academic years of 1992-1993 and 2000-2001 he was a visiting researcher under the Foundation Alexander von Humboldt scholarship at the University of Göttingen (Germany). From 1984 to 1992 he was the head of the Chair of Turkology and the head of the Department of Oriental Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Sarajevo, where he had started a very successful teaching and scientific career.

Zagreb Üniversitesi Felsefe Fakültesi Türkoloji Kürsüsü profesörü ve dünyanın en ünlü Türkologlarından biri olan Ekrem Čausević, Türk dili ve kültürü alanında yaptığı çalışmalarla akademik çevrelerde büyük yankı uyandıran bir bilim insanıdır. Bosna Hersek'in Bihaç şehrine bağlı Brekovica'da 1952 yılında doğmuştur. Bihaç Lisesini bitirdikten sonra Saraybosna Üniversitesi Ortadoğu Dilleri Bölümünden (Arapça, Türkçe ve Farsça) 1974 yılında mezun olmuştur. Aynı üniversitede yüksek lisans (1982) ve doktora (1986) tezlerini savunmuştur. İstanbul Üniversitesi (1978-1979), Ankara Üniversitesi (1986), Viyana, Budapeşte ve Sofya gibi çeşitli Türkoloji araştırma merkezlerinde bilimsel çalışmalarını sürdürmüştür. Alexander Von Humboldt vakfının burslusu olarak 1992-1993 ve 2000-2001 akademik yıllarında Göttingen Üniversitesinde (Almanya) konuk araştırmacı olmuştur. Eğitimci ve bilim insanı kariyerini başlattığı Saraybosna Üniversitesi Ortadoğu Dilleri Bölümü ve Türkoloji Kürsüsü başkanlığını 1984-1992 yılları arasında yürütmüştür.
